In the EOTO presentation where we learned about pro and anti-slavery events that occurred involving civil rights. One example a pro slavery was the Dread Scott Decision, which stated that Scott was not considered a slave due to the fact that even though he has lived in free territory for two years did not constitute him free and since he was a black man he was excluded from United States citizenship and was not able to bring a suit. Another example of pro-slavery events was the fugitive slave act, this act allowed for slaves to be re-captured and returned to their owners. This act was in place at the same time when other acts were being passed to abolish slavery.

On the other side, there were many events and acts that were passed that were attempting to abolish slavery. For example, on March 1st, 1780, the first act was passed in the attempt to gradually abolish slavery. This act banned future imports of slaves and freed newborn children of slaves in Pennsylvania. This act was the starting point of the start of the abolishment of slavery. But it wasn’t until the 13th amendment in 1865 that abolished slavery in the United States.
